Randy Weekes
Biggar
MLA Biggar On his farm, in his church and in his community, Randy Weekes has deep roots in the Biggar constituency. Mr Weekes was born in Biggar and grew up on the nearby family farm. After graduating from Biggar Composite High School, Mr Weekes studied at the University of Saskatchewan and received a Diploma in Agriculture. Mr Weekes also earned his Competent Toastmaster award (CTM) with Toastmaster International. Mr Weekes is an active member of his community. He is a member of St. Gabriel's Parish and Knights of Columbus. He has served as chairman of the Biggar Knights of Columbus Trade and Craft Show and as a provincial director of Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus. He is past chairman of the Saskatchewan Feeder Co-op Association and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Saskatchewan Cattle Feeders Association. Mr Weekes was elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2003 and 2007. During his terms in opposition, Mr Weekes served as the critic for the Environment, Labour, and Highways and Transportation. He also served as deputy critic for Immigration, and for Information Services Corporation. Mr Weekes was also vice-chair of the Legislature's Economy Committee and served on the Standing Policy Committee for Public Resource Management, the Legislative Committee on Agriculture, the Legislative Committee on Continuing Select and Non-controversial Bills, and on the Caucus Management Committee. Mr Weekes was also Deputy House Leader. After the Saskatchewan Party formed the government in November of 2007, Premier Brad Wall asked Mr Weekes to serve as Government Whip. Mr. Weekes is currently a member of the caucus' Standing Policy Committee on Crowns and Central Agencies and is also a member of the legislature's Standing Committee on Crowns and Central Agencies and the House Services House Committee. Mr Weekes has been farming and ranching with his family near Biggar since 1976. He, his wife Cindy and their family live on their ranch near Biggar. |
