Gene Makowsky Acclaimed as 2024 Saskatchewan Party Candidate for Regina University July 25, 2023

REGINA, SK – Gene Makowsky was acclaimed as the Saskatchewan Party candidate for Regina University in the upcoming 2024 provincial election.

“Thank you to the members of our party who have supported me since 2011,” Makowsky said. “I’m excited to run again and I look forward to earning the support of the residents of Regina University.”

Makowsky was first elected to the legislature in 2011 and was re-elected in the 2016 and 2020 provincial elections. He currently serves as the Minister of Social Services. Makowsky has previously served as Minister of Advanced Education, Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport as well as Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority and Tourism Saskatchewan.

Makowsky graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996 where he received his bachelor’s degree in education with distinction. He is best known for his 17 years playing offensive line with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and helping lead the Riders to a Grey Cup victory in 2007. In the off-season Makowsky worked as a substitute teacher in the Regina Public School System.

Makowsky and his wife, Tami, live in Regina and have three children.

The Saskatchewan Party has now nominated 12 candidates in advance of the 2024 election.
