Nancy Heppner Will Not Seek Re-Election

Nancy Heppner, Saskatchewan Party MLA for Martensville-Warman, announced that she will not be seeking re-election for the 2020 Provincial Election.

“To my constituents I want to say - thank you. Your support and generosity over the years is truly humbling.” Heppner stated, “The constituency of Martensville-Warman is a great riding.  To the next Saskatchewan Party Candidate, I would say to listen to your constituents.  They know what their communities need; go advocate for those things”

Heppner was first elected during a by-election in 2007 for the then constituency of Martensville, taking the seat of her father, the late Ben Heppner. She was successfully re-elected in the 2007, 2011 and 2016 Provincial Elections. In the most recent election, she won her seat with a strong majority at just over 79% of the vote.

“I saw rural Saskatchewan being ignored under the NDP.” Heppner said “I wanted to run to make a difference in the lives of my constituents and advocate for the things that they needed – better/safer roads and more schools.  We have achieved that.”

Heppner served in several cabinet roles including as the Minister of Environment, Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Water Corporation, Saskatchewan Watershed Authority and the Water Appeal Board, Minister of Central Services, Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission, Minister responsible for the Lean Initiative, Minister of Highways, Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation, and Minister of Energy and Resources, and Minister Responsible for the Public Service Commission.

Heppner stated, “What I’ve enjoyed the most is speaking with school groups.  I think it’s important for students to understand that other people make decisions that affect them every day and that it’s important to be educated and involved (regardless of the level of government).”

“I would also like to thank both the former Premier, Brad Wall, and Premier Scott Moe for their confidence in me and giving me the opportunity to serve is so many different roles.  It has been an honour to serve under both of these great leaders.”

“On behalf of all of our team, thank you Nancy for your dedication to our party and to the people of Martensville-Warman over the past decade.” Premier Scott Moe said “Nancy has always been a great advocate for our party and in 2007 brought sharp political insight with her and made our team even stronger. The Heppner name is foundational in our Party’s history, and Nancy's contributions to our province won't be soon forgotten. I wish her the best with what comes next. Nancy, you will be missed.”

For the 2020 provincial election, 19 candidates have been nominated.

The next nomination date is set for tonight, January 8^th, in the constituency of Swift Current.
