Maureen Alice Torr Acclaimed as 2024 Saskatchewan Party Candidate for Saskatoon Meewasin April 10, 2024

SASKATOON, SK – Tonight, Maureen Alice Torr was acclaimed as the 2024 Saskatchewan Party Candidate for Saskatoon Meewasin.

“Thank you so much for your support - I will be working hard to represent you in our Legislature,” Torr said. “I am committed to listen, learn, and lead to make Saskatoon a better place for all.”

Born and raised in Uganda, Torr moved to Canada in 2004 and obtained a Diploma in Business Administration from Saskatoon Business College. She would go on to earn a B.A. in Political Studies from the University of Saskatchewan. Torr began her career in public service as an International Students coordinator at various Universities in Canada.

Torr is the Founder and Director of Joy’s Centre Corporation, a Rotary Global Grant Award winning organization based in Saskatoon with outreach projects such as orphanage and community school in Uganda for the underprivileged children. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Saskatoon, and has volunteered with the Friendship Inn, mentored youth with Saskatchewan Intercultural Association, and has provided home and spiritual care in various care homes.

In recognition of her efforts, Torr was highlighted as a University of Saskatchewan alumni for Black History month. She has also received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary International and secured a Global Grant from Rotary International for a holistic project in Water, Hygiene, Sanitation and Good Governance.

Torr resides in Saskatoon with her family.

The Saskatchewan Party has now nominated 45 candidates for the 2024 provincial election.
