Greg Ottenbreit
Yorkton
MLA Yorkton Greg Ottenbreit is a long-time resident of Yorkton and a man who has always given generously to his community. Born in Regina, Mr. Ottenbreit has lived in Yorkton for most of his life. Prior to being elected in 2007, Mr. Ottenbreit owned and operated Ottenbreit Waste Systems Limited along with his brother Grant. His extensive involvement with community and volunteer organizations includes: the Yorkton Kinsmen Club, the Compassionate Friends of Yorkton, the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, the Yorkton Business Improvement District, the Yorkton Flying Club, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, the Yorkton Recycling Task Force, the Waste Advisory Board of Yorkton, and the Waste Advisory Council of Saskatchewan. Mr. Ottenbreit married his high school sweetheart, Leone, more than 22 years ago. In 1998, the couple started the "Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer" event which encourages volunteers to shave their heads to raise money for cancer research. The charity is named in honour of their son Brayden who died of cancer in 2000 at age 5. To date, almost $500,000 has been raised for cancer research. Mr. Ottenbreit and Leone have two daughters, Katelin and Rayanne. Mr. Ottenbreit was first elected as the MLA for Yorkton in the 2007 provincial election. Following the formation of a Saskatchewan Party government, Premier Brad Wall asked Mr. Ottenbreit to serve as the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Social Services, Community Based Organizations Initiative. Upon completion of this project in 2008, the Premier then appointed him to the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Environment, Recycling. Mr. Ottenbreit is currently the Chair of the caucus' Standing Policy Committee on Human Services and is also the Chair of the legislature's Standing Committee on Human Services. |
