Hugh Nerlien

Hugh has served as Deputy Caucus Chair for the governing Saskatchewan Party as well as Legislative Secretary to the Minister responsible for SaskTel and the Minister responsible for Public Sector Bargaining. In addition, he has worked on a number of legislative committees and has served as an alternate on Cabinet committees. He is currently a member of Public Accounts as well as the Standing Committee on Human Services.

Hugh’s primary focus is on his constituency issues of highway improvements, rural connectivity including cell and internet services and the agriculture economy. Constituency issues receive his full attention and he and his assistant work to advance their concerns, questions and opportunities.

Hugh brings extensive business experience to his roles. His background includes agriculture, small and large businesses including corporate banking, corporate restructuring, finance and also owning and operating small businesses. He has worked extensively in Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

While the business background is of great value, he is also an advocate for lifelong learning and volunteering. As an example, he is regularly upgrading knowledge including recent completion of a Fellowship in the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership and also, the Legislative Energy Horizon Institute international development program. In addition, he was the founding Chairman of the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association and worked with an International team to develop the Bylaws for Crime Stoppers International as well as working with other volunteer programs.

Hugh is married with three adult children.
