Darryl Hickie - MLA Prince Albert Carlton

Darryl Hickie was born in Winnipeg, MB into a military family and moved to Prince Albert in 1975. Darryl has lived and worked in Prince Albert for the past 35 years. Up until his election as the MLA for Prince Albert Carlton in November of 2007, Darryl served as a Constable assigned to the Forensic Identification Unit of the Prince Albert Police Service. He is also past President of the Prince Albert Police Association.

Prior to joining the Police Service in Prince Albert, Darryl was employed with the Correctional Service of Canada as a Correctional Officer and a Parole Officer for 14 years at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. During his employment with Federal Corrections, he obtained his B.A. degree in Sociology.

Darryl is an active member of his community. He is a past member of the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club, Director of the Crescent Acres Community Club and past member of the École Vickers School parent council. In his role as a police officer, he has had the opportunity to be the police coordinator on the Prince Albert Crime Stoppers Board. He is a past member of the Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce Investment and Growth Committee.

Hickie is a proud father who enjoys taking part in his daughters’ sports.  He devotes time to his daughters' school activities and was a coach for both of his girls' softball teams. “My girls are so important to me and I get a real sense of pride watching them excel and making lifelong friends through sports.”

Darryl served as the Minister for Corrections, Public Safety and Policing from 2007-2009. In June 2010, Premier Brad Wall appointed him as Minister of Municipal Affairs.

Hickie says he decided to run for the Saskatchewan Party after meeting now Premier Wall.

“I met Brad Wall for the first time in my role as a Police Association member and I just knew that I wanted to work with him.  His commitment to making our province a better place and his goals and priorities in relation to families and our children’s future were also what inspired me to seek the nomination in Prince Albert Carlton.”

Darryl and his wife Charlene, a teacher in Prince Albert for 25 years, have two daughters.  “As a family, we enjoy spending time at Waskesiu boating, biking and spending time on the beach whenever time allows.”
