Roger Parent to Run Again in Saskatoon Meewasin

April 17, 2014

Saskatoon— MLA Roger Parent will be nominated tonight as the Saskatchewan Party candidate in Saskatoon Meewasin for the next provincial election.

“I am very proud of what the Saskatchewan Party government has been able to accomplish since forming government,” Parent said. “There is still more to do and I want to be part of the team that is working hard to ensure that Saskatchewan is moving forward.”

Parent and his wife Sheila have lived in the Saskatoon Meewasin constituency for over 20 years.

“I want to thank the constituents of Saskatoon Meewasin for their support,” Parent said. “I have really enjoyed getting to know the people in the constituency over all these years and I look forward to continuing to take their ideas and concerns to the legislature.”

Parent has been involved with several initiatives within the community, including the Saskatoon Homelessness Initiative Partnership, SREDA Aboriginal Economic Development Committee, Saskatchewan Committee on Aboriginal Procurement, Métis Nation – Saskatchewan, sitting on the board of directors for the Saskatchewan Economic Development Association and most recently as a board member for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

Parent was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in the 2011 provincial election.

He is a member of the Red Tape Committee, member of the Traffic Safety Committee, Vice-Chair of the Crowns and Central Agencies Caucus Policy Committee and a member of the Crowns and Central Agencies Standing Committee.

“I really enjoy being a member of the Traffic Safety Committee,” Parent said. “Together, the committee brought forward numerous recommendations on how to improve traffic safety and in turn reduce the number of fatalities that we see on our roads every year. I am very proud of this.”

Parent says he wants to continue to be part of the Saskatchewan Party government.

“It’s a pleasure serving the people of Saskatchewan with Premier Brad Wall,” Parent said. “It’s very rewarding and I want to continue all the work we are doing to make Saskatchewan a great place to be.”

With Parent’s nomination as the candidate for Saskatoon Meewasin, the Saskatchewan Party has nominated nine candidates for the next provincial election.
