Maureen Alice Torr
Saskatoon Meewasin
Born and raised in Uganda, Maureen moved to Canada in 2004. She would go on to earn a B.A. in Political Studies from the University of Saskatchewan. Torr began her career in public service as an International Students coordinator at various Universities in Canada.
Maureen is the Founder and Director of Joy’s Centre Corporation, a Rotary Global Grant Award winning organization based in Saskatoon with outreach projects such as orphanage and community school in Uganda for the underprivileged children. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Saskatoon, and has volunteered with the Friendship Inn, mentored youth with Saskatchewan Intercultural Association, and has provided home and spiritual care in various care homes.
In recognition of her efforts, Maureen was highlighted as a University of Saskatchewan alumni for Black History month. She has also received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary International and secured a Global Grant from Rotary International for a holistic project in Water, Hygiene, Sanitation and Good Governance.
She resides in Saskatoon with her family.
