David Buckingham was elected MLA for the Constituency of Saskatoon Westview in the April 2016 Provincial election. Currently David is the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Immigration and Career Training. He also serves on the Standing Committee of the Economy and has been a Board Member on the Meewasin Valley Authority since May 2017. David has successfully completed his Fellowship with the Bowhay Institute of Legislative Leadership.
During David’s career as a commercial driver, he served as the Mayor of Borden for two terms and as a Councillor for one term. David was the President of the Borden Parks and Recreation Committee and this background has aided him in his role as a Board Member of the Meewasin Valley Authority.
A strong background in Municipal Government has given David a first-hand understanding of the issues of a growing and vibrant community. Given that knowledge, he wants to ensure the constituents of Saskatoon Westview have a voice at the provincial level as their community continues to grow.
Born and raised in a farming community near Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, David moved to Saskatoon in 1979 to pursue a career in the car hauling industry as a commercial driver. In 1988, David and his wife Karen moved to the community of Borden and raised their three children there.
David has been an active volunteer in his community. He served as a volunteer firefighter and was the co-founder of the Highway 16 Fire Commission, a group that was formed to regionalize and provide better training for volunteer firefighters in rural communities.
David and Karen enjoy spending time with their family and friends.
