Gene Makowsky Will Represent Regina Gardiner Park in Next Election
May 07, 2014Regina— MLA Gene Makowsky will be nominated tonight as the Saskatchewan Party candidate in Regina Gardiner Park for the next provincial election.
“I would like to thank my constituents for their continued support,” Makowsky said. “It has been a very humbling experience to work as the MLA for Regina Dewdney and I will work hard on the doorsteps of Regina Gardiner Park to earn their support for the next election.”
Makowsky graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996 where he received his bachelor’s degree in education with distinction. He is best known for his 17 years playing offensive line with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Lineman twice, a CFL All-Star five times and helped lead the Riders to a Grey Cup in 2007.
Makowsky was first elected to the Legislature in the 2011 provincial election. He currently sits on the Legislative Standing Committee and Caucus Policy Committee of Crown and Central Agencies.
In May 2012, Premier Brad Wall appointed Makowsky as Deputy Whip. In February 2013, he was appointed Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport for Recreational Initiatives.
Makowsky believes that it is important to look toward the future.
“Balanced budgets in our province are extremely important now as well as for the future,” Makowsky said. “My wife Tami and I have three kids and we certainly don’t want to have debt passed on to them. I think the government has done a good job of keeping taxes low, controlling spending and investing in our people while maintaining a balanced budget.”
Makowsky feels there is still more work to be done.
“I want to help continue the great work that is being done by the Saskatchewan Party government.” Makowsky said. “I think we’ve seen great things happen in our province over the last several years and I certainly want to keep that momentum going. The leadership from Premier Wall and the Saskatchewan Party government will continue to move Saskatchewan forward.”
With Makowsky’s nomination as the candidate for Regina Gardiner Park, the Saskatchewan Party has nominated 21 candidates for the next provincial election.
