Greg Ottenbreit Seeks Third Term in Yorkton

May 21, 2014

Yorkton — MLA Greg Ottenbreit will run for a third term after his nomination Wednesday evening as the Saskatchewan Party candidate in Yorkton for the next provincial election.

“Years ago, I realized our province had so much potential that we were failing to live up to,” Ottenbreit said. “I knew Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party had the leadership and a plan to help Saskatchewan fulfill its destiny. And today, Saskatchewan is leading the nation, which inspires me to continue serving as part of this team. I want to ensure our growth and the improved quality of life for the citizens of Saskatchewan continues.”

Ottenbreit was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in the 2007 provincial election.

Currently the Government Whip in the Legislature, Ottenbreit has had a number of legislative responsibilities, including Chair of the Legislature’s Standing Committee on Human Services, Legislative Secretary to the Premier for Vulnerable Youth, Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Environment on Recycling, and Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Social Services on Community Based Organizations.

“As the Legislative Secretary to the Premier for Vulnerable Youth, I was able to consult many stakeholders, including youth, for direction and ideas on how to help them live up to their potential, take part in Saskatchewan's economy, and improve their quality of life,” Ottenbreit said.

Born in Regina, Ottenbreit has resided in Yorkton for most of his life. Prior to his public service, he was a local entrepreneur, owning and operating a private environmental waste disposal business, Ottenbreit Waste Systems.

Community involvement is also important to Ottenbreit. In partnership with his wife, Leone, the two started Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer, an initiative encouraging volunteers to shave their heads to raise money for cancer research. In 2005, both Greg and Leone received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal for their community involvement and volunteerism.

Ottenbreit is excited to be part of the team that is moving Saskatchewan forward.

“It has been an honour to serve my home of Yorkton since 2007,” Ottenbreit said. “This community has been so good to my family in some of the most difficult situations I could imagine, as well as in our past business interests. If given the opportunity, I would love to continue serving the people of my constituency and province.”

With Ottenbreit’s nomination as the candidate for Yorkton, the Saskatchewan Party has nominated 28 candidates for the next provincial election.
