Ken Cheveldayoff to be Nominated Tonight as Candidate in Saskatoon Willowgrove

May 08, 2014

Saskatoon — Saskatchewan Party MLA Ken Cheveldayoff will be nominated tonight as the Saskatchewan Party candidate in Saskatoon Willowgrove for the next provincial election.

“I am proud to represent the people of Saskatoon Silver Springs in the Legislature,” Cheveldayoff said. “There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not humbled to be able to do what I do. I look forward to working hard to gain the honour of serving the people of the new Saskatoon Willowgrove constituency."

Cheveldayoff attended Carleton University in Ottawa, the University of Saskatchewan and Newport University in Southern California, receiving a B.A. (Honours) in Economics and Political Science in 1988 and a Masters of Business Administration in 1996.

Cheveldayoff was first elected as MLA for Saskatoon Silver Springs in 2003. As an opposition member he served as the critic for Post-Secondary Education and Finance.

After his re-election in 2007 and the formation of the Saskatchewan Party government, Cheveldayoff served as Minister of Crown Corporations. In May 2009, he became Minister of Enterprise, Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy and Minister Responsible for Trade. In June 2010 Cheveldayoff became Minister of First Nations and Métis Relations, Minister Responsible for Sask. Gaming Corporation and Minister Responsible for Northern Affairs.

He was re-elected to represent Saskatoon Silver Springs on November 7, 2011. On May 25, 2012 Cheveldayoff was appointed Minister of Environment, Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Watershed Authority and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Water Corporation.

Cheveldayoff thinks the growth of our province is showing dividends in Saskatoon.

“There are so many great things happening in Saskatoon,” Cheveldayoff said. “We’re building four new joint-use schools, building a new children’s hospital and the North Commuter Bridge project, just to name a few. I’m so pleased that I could play a role in improving the quality of life for the people of Saskatoon as well as the province.”

“It is an exciting time to be in government right now with the growth that we’re seeing in our province, especially in my constituency. Saskatoon Willowgrove is going to be a fast-growing constituency with many needs and I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to serve the people of the constituency.”

With Cheveldayoff’s nomination as the candidate for Saskatoon Willowgrove, the Saskatchewan Party has nominated 23 candidates for the next provincial election.
