Kevin Doherty To Be Nominated Tonight as Candidate for Regina Northeast

April 28, 2015

Regina— MLA Kevin Doherty will be nominated tonight as the Saskatchewan Party candidate in Regina Northeast for the next provincial election.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to serve the people of Regina Northeast,” Doherty said. “I really enjoy getting out in the community where I can to listen to people in their homes or at different community functions and take their concerns to the Legislature.”

Doherty has a strong and diverse track record of community involvement. His service includes former president of the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union, former member of the University of Saskatchewan Board of Governors, former vice-chair of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, former member of the Regina Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and former president of the Saskatchewan Special Olympics.

Doherty was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in the November 2011 provincial election.

In May 2012, Premier Brad Wall appointed Doherty as the Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport. He is also Minister Responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission. He is a member of Treasury Board and an alternate member on the Investment Board.

Doherty is proud of the Saskatchewan Party government’s record investment in provincial parks. The total capital investments in provincial parks has increased 244 per cent in the past seven years, compared to the previous seven-year period.

“By investing in our provincial parks we are improving the quality of life for people who make Saskatchewan their home as well as improving the visitor experience,” Doherty said. “In 2013, Saskatchewan provincial parks set an attendance record of 3.7 million visits.”

Doherty believes that Saskatchewan is on the path of steady growth.

“Our government has brought forward our seventh consecutive balanced budget,” Doherty said. “By controlling spending, we’re able to keep taxes low while making important investments in infrastructure and in our people.”

With Doherty’s nomination as the candidate for Regina Northeast, the Saskatchewan Party has nominated 15 candidates for the next provincial election.
