As a third-generation rancher, James has spent most of his life working in the Ag sector, as well as some contract work in the oilfield.

Having been a long time 4H member, he enjoys giving back to the program by volunteering as a judge at local Achievement Days and Public Speaking events. A strong advocate for mental health, he served on the Board of the Libbie Young Center in Lloydminster, which provides housing, programming, and education for people struggling with their mental health.

James served as the Saskatchewan Party President from 2014-2023.

He resides on his cattle ranch north of Maidstone. He and his wife, Lana have three sons and two future daughters in law.
